This is...awkward. It's a photo-manip i did, and i'm hard-pressed to find the me in there. Especially because i had to shape things like the chest from scratch, seeing as there's no way in the seven levels of hell i'm taking a picture of me without at least a bra on. And i'm not happy with the way the blue hair comes off her head, it's just not....shaped the way i want it to on top.

And i can see tons of other problems, but i decided to get it up now, since i'd started it almost a year ago, then my computer restarted on me when i was almost finished and i hadn't saved so that jumped me back to halfway done, and now the style and so many things have changed from what it had origionally looked like, but hey, it's done....mostly. ^^; And i fear if i don't do it now, i won't ever finish it.

That, and i'm procrastinating on my NaNoWriMo. I need someone to smack my hands on that account. *whistles innocently*

lol, really? I thought it looked too...wiry, choppy, whatever the word is, for the soft look i had been trying with everything else.

lol, it's really just swishing around behind her, and is very, very big. but i like that idea. I like that a lot.

Random Question: since mermaids are obviously water-element, so far as magical creatures go, and there are all sorts of strange creatures makeable like fire-nymphs and tree-nymphs and whatnot, with all sorts of different touches of their 'element' blending into them, what would happen if there was a 'fire mermaid'? O.o (i mainly thought of that because of your iceberg-waves idea. It's really, really neat. ^^)

Fire mermaid?

Hmm...
what about hot springs? I know that's thermobacteria, but thats a idea.
Or the underwater volcanos that live around Hawaii... that's kinda all I got.

:iconashen-rose:
lol, sounds good. Really good actually. And hot-springs style she could literally be sticking her head or upper body out of the surface of the water, and steam rises off her and practically becomes her hair on the edges, as well as part of her tail....

And the volcano could have molten lava or 'breathing fire' underwater on her tail or really shiny glassy glowing scales... hmmm....

And that's also a neat story idea--a mermaid in the underwater volcanoes in Hawaii, and maybe some interns are studying one for their professor when they see something strange off in the distance. They leave one or two to watch for the two or three that are diving underwater (with headsets to a radio that's on the big boat and whatnot) and take the small blow-up rescue boat (you know the kind that's got one big ring around all but the back end filled with air, and the bottom's pretty much hard plastic with an engine on the back end where the tube isn't and it comes to a triangle point in front? That...thing.) and paddle out to it, thinking that whatever it is might be scared away if they use the engine, and are more than a little surprised to see the unconcious and vibrantly-colored mermaid floating above the water. [the names would probably have to be Mark Mike Greg Mary Sara Kurt Andrew Denise Nick(nicholas, really, but Nick), just because i can't think of any others right now.]

There's in total about seven or eight student-intern trainees that are there that day(they've got permission to use the boat, their professors or who/whatever just don't know exactly what they're studying for their final project, else they might have some reservations or sent someone older and more experienced to help them study the underwater volcanoes), their ninth and geekiest member being at home working on some extra-credit report. (He's also the reason they're allowed to use the boat, 'teacher's pet' being the nice word for how much he's adored by the professors. And they end up going to him right off the bat, because they don't know what's wrong with her)

"...she looks sick." Mary commented, after they'd managed to slide the...mermaid out of the water >/i>[they'd just kind of floated her over to the big boat with some rope on a scaled wrist. The girl on the smaller boat, sara, getting increasingly worried as the fish-creature didn't even seem to twitch. The only sign that it was alive being the slight twitch of her tail against the current, though that's not really a sure sign until she makes a noise and moves just barely when they do get her on the big boat.] and onto some towels on the deck.

"i don't think it's well-off, at the very least." Kurt, agreed, his german accent just barely bleeding through.

"What are we going to do with it?" Greg asked from his position tying the rescue raft back to the side of the boat. "It's not like we've only discovered a new species here. This thing is almost human, not to mention straight out of some sort of fairytale."

"It'd get us secured internships though." Mike interrupted, staring at the fishy form in front of them.

"She's not an it, Mike! And she's hurt. We can't just let her go be some scientist's discection plaything!"

"We're scientists too you know." The redhead
[mike, whom the mermaid will actually take a liking too, if not at first solely because his hair is so brightly red] argued. "And besides, i was just saying..."

"Don't worry about it Mike." Greg told him. "Just come help me fill all the containers we've got with seawater, and Sara, call Mark and Suzie back up. We'll have to go over to where Andrew is ourselves and get him. But we need to make this quick." He flipped open his cellphone, his phone being the only one with signal all the way out in the ocean.

"Who are you calling? Mary asked, suddenly wary.

"Nick. We need him to find a place where we can switch her to land without anyone from the lab spotting us, and he might know what to do."

And yesh, Nick knows what to do; he also knows that they are all incredibly stupid for taking her out of the water like that and thinking that land is a good idea. They end up at his house (he's not only smart, his family/father's very well-off, so he never stayed at the dorms. He won't tell his friends who his dad is exactly though, and this is their first time at his house), where he's got a small pool used for housing aquatic marine creatures with real sea-water that he gets piped in and circulated. She goes in there, and he takes a swab sample, skin sample, hair sample, ect, while the two girls and Kurt (the girls had decided that Denise was to go with the rest of the boys to return the boat, since she's the best with coming up with alabis and reasons on why they need something or in this case, why the boat was returned so soon.) watch her or help him pull out supplies and test-items.

Greg and them get back, having gotten directions from Nick grudgingly after he'd realized how major this was (they'd origionally told him they couldn't tell him what it was until he saw it, and he didn't see it until they brought her to his house, since the guys had rigged up a sort of box-crate with soaked towels lining it to prevent her from being seen. So Nick was quite surprised when he did finally see what it was in the tarp-covered crate. And immensely furious. Since if he'd known beforehand what exactly it was they'd found and wanted to be so secretive about, he'd have made more preparations, and they probably wouldn't have even taken her to his house, but a different place on the beach that was more appropriate. They just couldn't risk losing her now because of the stress of another move. Watching their usually mild geek-boy flare up is definitely quite a surprise). anywhoo, greg and them get back, just in time to see nick--after running some tests on the samples--bringing a lit match to the mermaid's mouth.

"Nick! Stop it!" Greg yelled, rushing through the screen door and towards his friend.

Just as the fire on the match touched her lips and seemed to ignite, and it spreads a little bit from there onto her hair, where it looks like ripples of embers.

"We need to get her into some heat." and basically Nick explains they need to build a bonfire, sends some of the guys out to go buy/get the wood, has a couple of the girls go get some fresh fish, and that leaves him and Mary(who he's had a crush on since his very first day at the internship/whatnot when he was a late addition and she was the first one to be nice to him) and Mike(Who actually was one of the first to start pranking him, but oddly enough one of the first to start defending him against the older second-year people and whatnot).

Once the guys get back and the fire gets started, Nick tells them they need to haul her into it.

"What?!? No way!" Nick explains that the fire on the match worked, didn't it? and they needed to trust him on this. Greg--ever the leader of the group--asks why they needed to do that even as he starts helping in the pool getting a large blanket underneath her to haul ms. fishy out. Once out they all help get her on the bonfire they stand back from the sparks, and watch as she seems to soak up the heat until she's practically radiating it so she looks like shifting, glowing embers (you know how water shines as it ripples with waves and the light hits the peak, pretty much same effect, only with embers.)

And then, her eyes open.

She immediately takes to Mike, staring transfixedly at his hair and moves out of the flames enough to run her fingers through it and say something mournfully.

"What'd she say?" Mike looked taken aback--her skin was warm, though not too warm--and he looks to the others.

"She asked what happened to your hair. It's....short." Nick has a mixture of amusement and an unreadable emotion on his face as he answers, his tail in a semi-long loose ponytail at the nape of his neck.

Greg asks him how he knows that, and Nick gives a defensive answer on how he studied mythology before he got into science and his internship with them. And this leads onto other things, and a week later they have an incident where one of them ends up telling the professors and they all think it's Mike, since he had made that one comment, and he makes a couple more, plus some things involving the letters M and K being in the name of the one who told (one of the girls is accidentally eavesdropping and hears some things being said over a static-y phone connection, and the person spells their name.) turns out it's Mark.

One of the professors goes up to see for himself, which surprises them all at the betrayal, because the professor brought in several people. The students are at a rush to get her back to the water--she's able to survive and safe in the ocean, she was just severely sick/injured and needed fire, heat, to replenish herself, and she's still too weak to survive swimming all the way from the beach to the volcano herself.--and it all boils down to Nick taking one of the smaller boats from their fleeing big mariner and racing to meet the oncoming professor and his men. Mark is actually on board the mariner and apologized, saying he hadn't expected the professor to do that. Had thought he could trust him (or Mark's really evil and won't be let back on the boat. Either way. It's also odd, because the storyline i've now got was different from the first in that the mermaid was supposed to be pregnant and have a 'mate' underwater, and the nerd wasn't supposed to have such a big role as i'm thinking. I think i'll have her be pregnant still though, but without the mate.) but clearly that was a mistake. Nick is angry, the 'nerd' is angry. And refuses to forgive him that easily. Let alone trust him.

They get her to the volcanoe, where the sound of an approaching boat cuts into the night. (they thought they'd lost the other boat when the sound of its engine abruptly stopped) and they hurry to suit up and get diving gear on to help her make it down, when Mary at the spotlight on the top makes a surprised, happy noise, and says it's Nick.

Nick climbs back up into the boat with a hand from Greg and Mike and slumps down into against the railing, exhausted.

"Dude, vat'd you do back there?" Kurt asks. He just kinda avoids the subject, only answsering that he didn't kill anyone, at least. They suit up, taking special care to keep the mermaid warm with heating lamps and other suchnot. Then they dive. By the time they return to the surface, and get back in the boat, there's another mermaid there waiting for them. This one's blue, however, and he thanks them for helping the mermaid Atea get back to them. He seems troubled, however, and keeps looking over at Mike.

Turns out Mike's got a very similar resemblence to one of their own who went....missing, years ago. Though he assures them there's absoloutely no way he could be a mermaid, weeks later, when the mermaid's back to normal and she's feeling better, the group has had several encounters with mythological or magical creatures. And since she's feeling better she can swim fairly easily in the ocean, and surprises them with her human form.

Her human form with a baby-bump.

Ladeeda, among other things that happen, they have to worry about finding this prince since the one mermale/mermaid guy who'd talked to them on the boat was the king's gaurd and had said it was highly possible that the prince was on land, on the islands somewhere. They don't know or won't say if he was kidnapped or just fled of his own accord.

The bad guy for this second arc or whatnot would have to be some sort of magical creature, that wants to steal the prince mermaid's powers and take them for his own, so he could rule this portion of the sea, and corrupt it to his will.

And you don't know until almost near the end, that Nick is really the prince. Hidden behind nothing more than not-so-flattering baggy nerd clothes and glasses, and some hair-dye that he's almost ritualistic about making sure he does often (if even the tiniest bit showed through, it would be rather...vibrant. Like Mike's half-natural, half highlighted locks.) though he kept his hair longer and didn't cut it short.

And end of that arc, he doesn't go back to the sea but his friends and Atea (Who's taken a real shine to Mike, to say the least, and Mike's not sure how to take it, knowing that a preggers and for all he knows single mermaid likes him and that he quite possibly might like her back.) will keep the secret, and will help him find an artifact or jewel that he wants--needs to get before he can allow himself to go back. It's his fault, and he doesn't feel he's fit to rule anyways. So they have to help him find it, and Mary will end up seeing his 'true form' when he has to save her from an underwater blast or their ship blowing up (they're all searching in pairs, and despite his blushing protests, Greg paired them up. Him and Greg have this whole double-leadership deal going on.) and that's a doozy. He scoops her into him and wraps his arms tightly around her and transforms as he dives into the water. He didn't want to transform because he ran away when he was younger and before he had gotten old enough to take the throne. To switch into his origional form now in the ocean would be like to send a pulse through it alerting not only his people but the other six mer-nations and their rulers that he is ready and able to take his rite of passage and become ruler. And he's not. Not yet at least. And that also means taking on a queen, and all that other good junk, and he wouldn't be able to take mary with him.

But what if there was a way? And what if that's part of what he is searching for? What if at first he was just running away, and now, he's got a reason to go back, so long as Mary's happy, if she'd have him, and come with him. But how to ask her to come with him (maybe she also has family that he can't think about tearing her away from, or part of why he's attracted her is how she's so rooted, so strong, even without a family), or even tell her he loves her? She's always close to Greg (or one of the other guys, maybe it was Mark, and if he comes back she's always defending him, and if he doesn't then she switches to greg or kurt or somesuch) and he gets jealous. and doesn't realize that they're brother or father figures to her, and she's always a little odd around him because she likes him instead.

Which makes it funny when he starts pummeling the crap out of whoever it is and one or both of the other mentioned guys who she's not quite that close to pulls him off. Thank goodness she's not there to see that, as well as that they didn't slip off the edge of the volcanoe they were studying. They do still have their internships and whatnot to deal with in between everything else.

....and i'm so rambling it's not even funny. O.o ^^; Sorry.

....though i really like the idea of them going to the hotsprings for something and the girls get the guys to go in with them.... maybe after he changes forms, or they spot a nymph of some sort there, that takes a liking to them and teases them while they're there....

No, bad Kara. Bad.

That SHINE! on the blue of the tail at the top of her legs looks so incredibly real!
The shading and highlights on it are perfect!
The colours youve used are soso pretty, too, and the movement is lovely. aybe her hair would be better if it were being swept up like her tail? I'm not really sure, I trhink it's gorgeous!

lol, you mean the one that goes up and down mostly? I had time to work on it, when i did work on it. I had loooots more time than i should have had with it.

Hmmm, you have a point with her hair....unfortunately, i'm lazy as heck about this photo in particular, but then again, the back of the tail and her hair/front body are on different layers in the non-web copy, so i might end up trying that out anyways sometime....
